WHOIS is a public registry of domain information. It is used to check the registration and expiry date, the registrar, nameservers and blocking statuses (clientHold and others).

The tool requests up-to-date data from the WHOIS servers of the relevant zone, including the Russian .ru and .рф.

When you need it

Keep track of your own domains’ expiry: an expired domain means the site and email stop working, and sometimes the loss of the domain forever. For important domains, enable auto-renewal and keep the contacts at your registrar up to date.

When buying a dropped or second-hand domain, study its history: a recent change of NS and owner combined with a link profile may indicate a past merge or filters.
